Mediatization is becoming a characteristic feature of modern times and emphasizes the role of the media as a tool of social interaction in all areas of cultural development, including the scientific and educational environment. The purpose of this work was to study the current practice of mediatization of scientific and educational activities of Russian universities through the medium of their official websites. The research questions were: “How effectively is the websites potential used by Russian universities?” and “Is the evaluation of the effectiveness of this activity undertaken and which parameters are problematic?”. To this end, ten Russian universities were selected, and their websites were analyzed according to the method of effectiveness evaluation developed by the author. On the basis of this analysis, a rating was made and recommendations for improving the efficiency of official university websites were given.
