The article analyses the reviews of ‘Mayak’ magazine editor S. Burachok, devoted to Lermontov‘s work: the ‘Hero of Our Time’ novel. Relying on his own theory of ‘the Russian novel’, which was to resist the Western European art of ‘furious’ romanticism, Burachok transferred the conversation about aesthetics of Lermontov’s oeuvre to religious and ethical plan. The article also focuses on the comparison of Burachok’s and Belinsky’s attitudes in relation to Lermontov’s works.
