The Phenomenology of Critical Interpretation (Global Context and Domestic Experience)

The article deals with the problem of the critical interpretation of the literary works. Different points of view are considered: the negation of the interpretation as such by American writer and essayist Susan Sontag and the statement of Italian writer and philologist Umberto Eco — the work of literature is the generator of interpretations. From this point of view the experience of the Russian criticism of the 19th and 20th centuries is analyzed. The critic shows his worth as an artist in the creative interpretations of literary works. Russian criticism of nowadays needs the reinforcement of the interpretation practice for the strengthening of the status of criticism, its contact with the writers and the readers.
