The author of the article considers I.A. Bunin's lecture “Great intoxication” (1919) as a factor which influenced the post-revolutionary literary reputation of this writer. Before the October revolution Bunin was considered a second-rate tough rather talented belletrist but he was perceived as “a live classic”, the master in emigration. In our opinion the beginning of this “transformation” started in Odessa during Civil war when for the first time Bunin declared himself as writer-patriot and a determined opponent of “the great Russian revolution”.
