Technological Innovations in Russian Business Journals: Genre Solutions

The article analyzes the main genre forms of analytical publications about new technologies in the leading Russian business journals, such as Forbes Russia, Expert and Profil for 2017–2021. The most sought after genres are analytical article (30% of all publications), case (23%) and review (20%). These genres form the main directions of journalistic analysis of scientific and technological issues. Notably, the publications in the genre of analytical article are the most diverse: in the form of a practical-analytical article the publications consider the problems of introducing and using new technologies (13.6%), in the form of a general research article – the problems of state innovation policy (9.2%) and the risks of technological development (4.9%). The history and prospects of scientific discoveries and inventions are the subject of popular science articles (2.4%). Genre forms such as expert interview (13%) and author’s column (6%) are also heavily used. The genres of report, recommendation and selection are involved to a much lesser extent, about 2% of publications.
