Section: Education in Journalism

The article presents the data resulting from the survey of Chinese citizens studying at the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University (the number of respondents – 260). The survey was conducted to reveal the main socioeconomic characteristics and the motivation of Chinese young people to get journalism education in Russia in general and at Moscow University in particular. Over the past seven years, among applicants from the PRC there has been a steady increase in demand to study at Moscow State University for a degree in Journalism. However, the prerequisites for this trend, the demographic composition of Chinese students, the reasons why they choose to study at the Faculty of Journalism have not been under comprehensive scientific analysis so far. Nowadays, more than 600 students from China are studying at the Faculty of Journalism, so the faculty is Russia’s undisputed leader in terms of providing educational services to Chinese citizens in the field of journalism. In the course of the investigation, we analyzed the answers of respondents, who came to study in the Russian Federation from mainland China, to the questions related to their origin and motives to get journalism education in our country.
