The article below examines the ideological strategies in Heine's “The Romantic school” — one of the earliest and one of the most controversial studies in Romanticism. Paradoxically enough, Heine's grievances against the romantic mindset resemble closely that rnming from the “catholic party”, i.e. from his most ardent enemies. Both parties relinquish a complex, consequently dialectic, combinative world-view in favour of more hierarchical, solid and steadfast conceptions de facto dropping back to classicistic and scholastic patterns.
