Section: Sociology of Journalism

Nowadays mass media are to work under the pressure of rapid changes in the ecosystem due to the spread of new technologies. It means that new approaches toward the newsroom management are highly needed. First of all the new tools for quality and efficiency measurement are to be adopted. Therefore the authors have conducted the investigation of methods that can help to detect and further manage the quality of media texts and the efficiency of journalists’ work. These methods mostly concern the calculation of rejections of the reporters’ texts and estimation of the “texts-to-rewrite” share. Both reporters’ and editors’ estimations have been analyzed. Based on this analysis the authors draw the conclusion about the validity of these tools and state that the overall professional level of newsroom staff is perceived by the editors as relatively high. Moreover the significant differences in efficiency in newsrooms of different types have been detected. The authors have revealed that age of reporters serves as the predictor for the level of work efficiency and quality of media texts.
