This article deals with crucial moments of Russian history — October revolution in 1917 and Civil War — in the context of the effect made on sport and sports journalism. The thesis that pre-revolutionary journalism wasn’t over after October coup, but continued to exist and influence the Soviet sports journalism formation is proved on the basis of studying sports press published between 1917 and the beginning of 1920-s. This impact could be considered as obvious example of the traditions’ continuance which shows not only uniqueness of sports press in XIX and the beginning of XX centuries, but also its affinity with Soviet sports press and through it with modern sports journalism.
