Journalism education in New York University: history and modernity
Download paperSection: Education in Journalism
The Arthur L. Carter Institute at New York University — one of the oldest and most respected Journalism programs in the United States — has always emphasized practical instruction in writing and reporting, rather than theoretical investigations of journalism. In this regard it represents typical example of the top Journalism programs in the United States. In response to the rise of new forms of journalism, New York University has begun encouraging more thoughtful, more searching approaches to writing and reporting. This includes more specialized, scholarly study of the subject matter upon which a student is being trained to write and report. The emphasis remains, however, upon that writing and reporting, more than upon the study of journalism itself.
